Why Zirconium abutment is more popular day by day?

may2.jpgImproved aesthetics, as well as the desire to use non-metallic restorative materials have increased the use of dental ceramics. Zirconium is a highly stable mineral that is both biocompatible and has a high resistance to corrosion. Zirconia (zirconium oxide) has three to six times the strength and fracture toughness of zirconium. These biomechanical characteristics and the white colour of the material allow for the fabrication of aesthetic restorations of extremely high quality.

A zirconium abutment is made by a sophisticated CAD-CAM system and is the current state of the art abutment in aesthetic areas. No metal is present to ever cause discoloration at the gum line, which means that, years later when probably the gum-line is changing, there won’t be any metal-colour line between your crown and gingival.

Proper hygiene is required from patients wearing implants

Good mouth hygiene has a basic role in the long-term viability of implant-based tooth replacement. Beside cleaning the teeth twice a day with tooth brush and tooth paste in the usual way the neck-part of the implants - or if it is covered by crown, the surrounding gum - and the underlying parts of the prosthesis must carefully cleaned. Plaque can be easily removed from these places with the help of an inter-dental tooth brush or dental floss. Avoid the use of oral hygienic materials containing fluorine in high concentration! The other important condition of a long-run success is a properly prepared prosthesis. If these two conditions are met, implants can last for just as long as the original teeth that they are replacing.
